Michael and Susan were married on June 11th, with a ceremony in the gardens at Oakeside Mansion in Bloomfield, NJ, followed by a tented reception.

The mansion is a 19th century estate with four acres of gorgeous gardens and a distant barn. Inside the charming estate are amazing rooms full of chandeliers and wood moldings, with a beautiful staircase. It was the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

This wedding has been a long time coming for these two. They met in a church group in high school and started dating, but then Mike went off to the military. They kept in touch over ten years while he was in a combat zone, and he then told her he would be leaving the military. She met up with him in Italy, and they traveled through Europe together, ending up in Munich for the Oktoberfest. During the Oktoberfest, Mike lost track of Sue for a few hours, and when he found her again, in the rain under a tree, she knew from the look on his face that he cared for her.

Then, last year, as Mike was preparing to graduate from college, Susan invited him to her father’s birthday party. Unprompted, her niece Izabella walked over to Michael, looked him in the eye, and asked, “Mike, will you marry my Auntie Sue?” And of course, Michael took the six-year-old’s advice.

When these two met, it was clear that they were soulmates—location, timing, circumstances were all irrelevant once they connected. No matter what else happens, they are safe with each other, in their own paradise, able to share their deepest longings and sense of direction.

During the wedding itself, these two shone with beauty in the gardens, and I especially loved how the flower girl not only dropped rose petals but also carried Sue’s train. The entire day was filled with a sense of wonder and peace, from the ceremony in the gardens to the cocktail hour on the front porch and the reception in a tent on the grounds.

Thank you, Mike & Sue, for allowing me to be part of this amazing day. And thank you to my second shooter, Sam, as well as Carla from Details Made Simple for helping me celebrate this momentous occasion!
